A little bit of information about me

Ian's Driving SchoolAbout me
I completed my instructor training through LDC and am fully trained in using the LD system.

I was born and grew up in Bangor,Gwynedd before to joining the Metropolitan Police (London) on leaving school. I transferred to the North Wales Police in 1996, moving back home to Bangor. It was in the police that I was introduced to Roadcraft ( a structured and systematic approach to driving with safety at it’s core) whilst undergoing various police driving courses. On promotion to supervisory roles, I became responsible and confident in managing and developing staff.I retired from the police service in 2017.

I am married and we have one son who is rapidly growing into a young man.

I have various hobbies and interests but my passion is rugby, a sport I played for many years. In an effort to put something back into the game and the community, I successfully undertook WRU coaching qualifications and for a number of years, I have been involved in coaching at various age groups at Bangor rugby club. I take great satisfaction from watching the boys that I have coached develop their skills and their teamwork. I have always enjoyed driving in its own right and hold licences to drive a number of different vehicles, such as motorcycle and LGV. My other interests include cycling ( even managed to convince my son to cycle with me from Bangor to Norwich), snowboarding, walking the dog and exploring the mountains of Snowdonia.

On retiring from the police service I thought long and hard with regards to what career path to follow. I decided to combine the existing skills that I have in driving and coaching with the fact that I take genuine pleasure from both, whilst setting myself the challenge of further developing my skills into becoming a driving instructor. I am naturally a calm, rational person with a relaxed attitude. Over the years these skills have been tested on numerous occasions, in the most pressurised of situations. These strengths remained unbroken and consistently delivered a safe outcome.

I have been fortunate enough to have undergone further training with the LDC organisation in the latest adult coaching and training techniques. By placing my approach to driving lessons firmly within those up to date techniques, you, as my student, will learn to drive in a relaxed and calm environment. I will endeavour to make you feel at ease in order to thoroughly learnt the craft of driving, at your pace whilst making every lesson productive and enjoyable. Our aim is not just about passing the practical test but enabling each student to have the tools and knowledge to be a safe driver for a lifetime.
